Roll up, roll up! The big top is being pegged and the contortionists limbering up! This year’s University of Sydney Union O-Week is just around the corner.
O-Week is the biggest event on the University calendar and is the best way to get acquainted early with the myriad of societies, parties and people on campus. From Wednesday 29th February to Friday the 2nd March, you will see everything from fire breathing antics to the explosive Campus Cannon. Ways to experience the circus that is University will be flying at you faster than an acrobat’s trapeze.
Over 160 clubs and societies will be on display for your viewing pleasure. They will answer questions and tell you exactly what’s involved in being a member of their clubs, especially the Mr Darcy Appreciation Society... The clubs will also tell you how important it is to buy an Access Card*, so that you can join any club on campus and receive discounts on your favourite foods and best-loved beer.
We’re squeezing into our leotards and dusting off our hula-hoops, and we can’t wait to see you there!
Console Competition
Time: 1 – 3pm
Day: Wednesday
Location: Manning Bar
Lightening speed reflexes and no fear? We’re not looking for a lion tamer, we’re looking for console gamers! Amazing prizes to be won for the competitive, and a great place for lunch if you’re watching. The famous Manning Grill offers discounts for Access Card holders.
Arts Society (SASS) Speed Dating
Time: 4 – 6pm
Day: Wednesday
Location: Big Top
Getting bigger every year, it remains to be seen if even the Big Top can contain the raging pheromones of first-years. Let out your inner Casanova and meet the strongman to your bearded lady. Win someone’s heart, or win a prize, you won’t be disappointed!
Send in the Clowns Comedy Night
Time: 7pm
Day: Thursday
Location: The Quad (MacLaurin Hall)
The finest of the University of Sydney Union’s comedy alumni come out to play on this incredible night. At only $15 for Access Card holders, you will see the Axis of Awesome musical trio, Tom Ballard (co-host of Triple J Breakfast) and Michael Hing (Project 52), hosted by The Chaser’s Craig Reucassel. This will be a better ride than being upside down on a pony!
Intermission
Time: 2pm– 12am
Day: Friday
Location: Hermann’s Bar
After juggling the dizzying highs of O-Week like a juggling tightrope walker, there is nothing better than relaxing with a cold drink, live music and blissed out beats. Clubs are likely to congregate here after their stall duties, so make sure you come along to get a feel for the brains behind O-Week.
